Internet Policy:
All library patrons with a current library card are allowed access to the computers and related equipment at the library. However, patrons who have overdue materials and/or fines will be blocked from using the computers at the time they enter their library card number. This block will continue until the patron account is cleared.
Parents, guardians and caregivers are responsible for their child's use of the Internet.
Finney County Public Library assumes no responsibility for direct or indirect results of access to the Internet through the library.
General Computer Access Guidelines
Patrons must use their own library card (issued in their name) to use a computer or access the internet.
Library staff is available for basic assistance as time allows but must serve patrons at the desk as a priority.
The computers are available on a "first-come, first-serve" basis.
You are limited to a one hour block of time on the computer.
Each computer has virus scanning software installed.
You may not install software on any of the computers in the library.
All documents are cleared off of the hard drive after every session.
Computers specified as Express have a 20 minute time slot.
Computers are filtered, but patrons should be aware that material inappropriate for children may be accessed.
Floppy disks and CDs are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk. Headsets are also available.
Printing is payable at the Circulation Desk. Printed pages are $.10 each for black and white copies and $.50 each for color copies. You must pay for each and every page you print. You may not provide your own paper.
LIABILITY:
The library assumes no liability for any loss or damage to user's data or disks, nor for any personal damage or injury whatsoever incurred as a result of using the library's electronic resources. This includes, but is not limited to, damage or injury sustained from invasions of user's privacy. Enter any credit card or financial information at your own risk.
GUIDELINES:
The following activities are prohibited:
* Installing or downloading software.
* Plugging devices into the staff network.
* Playing multi-player video games.
* Viewing subject matter with offensive or obscene text or images.
* Adult use of computers restriced to children and young adults and child use of computers restricted to adults.

Users are not to use the equipment in any unauthorized or unlawful manner or for any illegal purpose, as described in the Kansas Criminal Code (see KS.A. 21-3755). The computers and software provided by the Finney County Public Library shall not be used for any illegal activity as defined by International, US., Kansas, or local laws such as libel, plagiarism, obscene, slander or any other illegal activity. Accessing objectionable materials and leaving it on the screen or in the printer for staff or others may constitute sexual harassment and may be grounds for prosecution. Misuse of the computer or Internet may result in denial of your Internet use privileges, expulsion from the library, recovery of damage costs, or prosecution under the law.
US. Copyright law (Title 17, US Code) prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted material, except as permitted by the principles of "fair use."
Users may not copy or distribute electronic materials (including electronic mail, text, images, programs or data without the explicit permission of copyright holder. All responsibility for any consequences of copyright infringement lies with the user, the library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility resulting from such violations.
Users may not disregard the rules of network etiquette, or interfering with use of the network by others, including: using appropriate language, respecting the privacy of other users and keeping conversation to a minimum. Hate mail, discriminating remarks and other anti-social behaviors are unacceptable.

The library does not provide access to gambling or fee based services.
Access to the Internet from Finney County Public Library is a privilege, not a right. Be considerate of others when viewing material that may be considered offensive by other library users. The Finney County Public Library Board of Trustees is committed to providing a safe environment for all library users, including staff.
Library staff will determine what constitutes a violation of these guidelines. Violations may result in immediate loss of computer privileges.
